St Michael's CE Junior School, Barnard Road, Galleywood
Commissioned by St Michael's
The brief for this commission was to produce a permanent artwork in the form of a tree to celebrate the school's 50th anniversary. I chose to work with all the pupils in the junior school enabling them all to have an imput.
Each class drew leaves from observation and worked in groups to construct their own version of a forest using vinyl. The resulting group artworks were photographed and manipulated by computer to change into green hues. These were then overlaid by a selection of the drawn leaves using them as templates to form individual leaves from the children's artwork. Each leaf was then overlaid with the pupils names, one for each pupil in the junior school as at July 2018.
The trunk and branches of the tree were printed onto vinyl and applied directly to the wall. The leaf artwork was printed onto vinyl and applied to acrylic before being laser cut into individual leaves. Each one was individually installed onto the vinyl branches using spacers to raise away from the wall.
